Dear Class,
I am so excited to work with you; my happy place in life is learning with people, particularly when that learning centers on literature and history. I want to invite you to begin reading Mark Twain’s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court now so you are able to complete all the assignments in the Introductory week by the Saturday, April 23rd deadline. Whereas several classes have very few requirements during the Introductory week, this class requires a lot. (I have attached our course schedule so you may see which reading and writing assignments you will have throughout the semester.)
In our class, we do a lot of reading and writing. You’ll write many small essays, a few larger essays, and so many discussion board posts! Be prepared to honestly, respectfully express your opinions in discussion boards, and always demonstrate your best writing. Don't worry about converting your classmates to your way of thinking; just describe what you find.
We will have our first class meeting on Thursday, April 21st, at 8 pm (MT). This will be your opportunity to ask questions and interact with me, and each other, live. I will send you a link and a reminder about our meeting by Thursday afternoon. Don't worry if you can't make the live meeting; I will record it, and you may watch it at a later time.
Please respond to the following questions as soon as possible to help me know you a bit better:
1. Why are you taking this class?
2. What is one of your favorite books, and what makes it a favorite?
3. What skill or attribute do you want to strengthen during your time in this class?
4. Is there anything you’d like to tell me as class begins to help me know you a bit better?
I look forward to hearing back from you!
Sincerely,
Sister Bowen
